From the capital city of Tirana to the stunning beaches of the Albanian Riviera, this road trip will give you a taste of everything that this fascinating country has to offer.

There are a few different options for driving through Albania, so it’s best to map out your route in advance and make sure you allow enough time to see all the sights along the way. Finally, make sure you pack everything you need for your trip. This includes a good map of Albania, a reliable car, and all the necessary supplies for camping or hotels, depending on your accommodation preferences.
Essential Gear and Supplies

Day 1: Tirana City Tour
After breakfast at your hotel, your local guide will take you on a walking tour of Tirana’s highlights. Explore the bustling Blloku district, home to government buildings and embassies, as well as fashionable restaurants and bars. Walk downSkanderbeg Square, named after Albania’s national hero, and see the Et’hem Bey Mosque and the Renaissance Clock Tower. Continuing on foot, you will pass through the former royal palace grounds before reaching the old town. Stroll along its narrow streets lined with historic buildings such as the 17th-century §heihn Hamid Mosque. Learn about traditional Albanian life as you walk past stone houses and visit a handicraft workshop where artisans create hand-woven textiles. Following lunch at a local restaurant, your afternoon is free to explore Tirana further or relax at your hotel.
Day 2: Ksamil Beach
After a restful night’s sleep, we woke up early and hit the road to Ksamil Beach. The drive was about an hour and a half, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. We stopped several times along the way to take photos and just soak in the views. When we finally arrived at Ksamil Beach, we were not disappointed. The water was crystal clear and the sand was incredibly soft. We spent the entire day relaxing on the beach, swimming in the sea, and just enjoying each other’s company. It was exactly what we needed after all of the driving we had done over the past few days.
Day 3: Gjirokastra Old Town
Gjirokastra is an enchanting town located in southern Albania. In the old town, you’ll find beautifully preserved Ottoman-era architecture and a bustling market. Be sure to explore the castle and enjoy the views from its rooftop!
Day 4 – 6: Saranda, Butrint, and Blue Eye Natural Spring
Spend your days exploring the beautiful coastal town of Saranda and the ruins of Butrint. Be sure to take a dip in the Blue Eye Natural Spring!
Day 7 – 8: Vlora & Himare Coastline
Vlora and Himare are two of the most popular coastal towns in Albania. They offer stunning scenery, crystal-clear waters, and a relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy, including swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and hiking. You can also explore the many restaurants and cafes lining the seafront. Make sure to visit the Vlora Citadel for some great views of the town and surrounding area.
Day 9 – 10 : Albanian Alps & Valbon
After a few days in the capital city of Tirana, it’s time to hit the road and explore some of Albania’s gorgeous scenery. Just a couple hours away is the Albanian Alps, where you can find towering peaks, pristine rivers, and Alpine meadows. Valbona Valley is a particularly popular spot for hiking and camping, and there are several trails to choose from depending on your level of fitness. If you’re up for a challenge, try the hike to Thethi waterfall, which takes about 5 hours round-trip. The views along the way are absolutely stunning, and you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall. For something shorter and easier, opt for the 2-hour hike to Black Cave. You’ll still get to enjoy incredible mountain views, but won’t have to tackle any difficult uphill sections. No matter which hike you choose, make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks with you. And if you’re going during peak season (July and August), be sure to book your campsite in advance as they fill up quickly!
